CRTC Student Ambassadors: The Backbone of Our Recruitment Efforts

Oftentimes, a student’s first real engagement with the CRTC is through one of our student Ambassadors, who enthusiastically describe how their personal CRTC experience has helped them to focus their interests and ambitions into a viable career pathway plan. These firsthand endorsements have proven to be a valuable recruitment tool that both encourages prospective students and persuades parents to take a closer look at what we have to offer.

“I love talking to students about the CRTC,” said Elizabeth “Alex” Flanagan, a senior in the Cosmetology program. “It’s always such a good feeling to inspire others to follow their dreams, and that’s just exactly what you do as an ambassador.”

Every fall CRTC teachers nominate a handful of their best and brightest students to become CRTC student Ambassadors. These students, from each of our 11 Career Pathway programs, are trained to talk to prospective students and their parents about the benefits of a CRTC career-focused education.

This school year, the CRTC has enlisted 134 student ambassadors, who have taken on an even more important role during this virtual recruitment season, reaching out to prospective students to provide information, answer questions and serve as living examples of the benefits of a CRTC education.

“Our ambassadors have been totally awesome this year,” said CRTC Program Coordinator Kate Amrol. “They have been stepping up to help us to make real connections to students who are unable to attend recruitment assemblies or tour our facilities during this COVID-restricted school year.”

Once selected, Ambassadors work with their teachers to develop and refine the way they talk about what their individual programs offer, and to practice speaking publicly about the advantages and opportunities of a CRTC education. The experience not only supports CRTC recruitment efforts, but also gives the Ambassadors the opportunity to practice soft skills such as communication and public speaking.

“Becoming an ambassador has helped me to get out of my shell and be more confident talking with others,” said Alex, who attends Kearsarge Regional High School. “I like being that person who reaches out to students in other schools and is able to motivate them to join what we do here.”
