Beginnings, Endings and Business as Usual

Beginnings, Endings and Business as Usual

The CRTC is back in business for another school year with new faces, new challenges and the same old determination to provide all our students with a career-focused education designed to prepare them for college, career and life success. While this is the 41st year for the CRTC, it will be the last year for me, as I plan to retire from the Concord School District at the end of the school year. And while I’m leaving the position I’ve been in since 2008, I’ll continue to be involved in promoting career pathways and related educational experiences in New Hampshire.

This year I will serve as CRTC Principal, and will be working with the new and talented CRTC Director, Anne Fowler, throughout the school year to ensure a smooth transition as Anne will take over as principal on July 1, 2022. You can read more about Anne in this issue of the Compass Magazine, as well as about our new administrative assistant, Kathy Connor, who started in our office in August.

And while there are some transitions in the office, we remain committed to providing a robust career-focused education for all our Career and Technical Education students. COVID is still an issue, and so we will be requiring students and staff to wear masks in school until the school district changes the requirements. But we will continue to press forward with our work-based learning opportunities.

In this issue, you can read about how Criminal Justice student Emma Ramsey and Theater & Film student Sophia Shaw are taking their high school education beyond the classroom to gain some on-the-job experiences that are energizing their ambitions and informing their postsecondary college and career plans.

And finally, you can also read how Education & Behavioral Science teacher Val Koch has been most deservedly named New Hampshire CTE Teacher of the Year. Val is a former CRTC Education program student, and has been teaching the program since 2001.

As always, to learn more about the latest CRTC happenings, events and student achievements, check out our Facebook and Friends of the CRTC Facebook pages, as well as our Instagram account.
